August 2025 progress update
August 2025 progress update
Hello everyone! Time moves quickly and it is August already. A lot of work is happening on the firmware, but what use is that if you don’t have the device in your hand. So this time let’s focus on the main question people have asked the past weeks: when will production start?
Compliance testing
The past months we have worked on preparing documents and firmware for the EMC and RED tests that need to be done for CE compliance. This work has now concluded and we have shipped samples to China for the lab to test with.
We expect that testing should be concluded within the next three weeks. Depending on the outcome one of two things may happen:
If the tests are successful and we receive a report stating that it passes production of the main boards can start, of course this is what we expect and hope for.
If the tests are not successful then we will have to do research on the reason behind the failure, solve said issue and manufacture another prototype batch. Samples then need to be shipped back to China etc… if this were to happen it would cause a delay.
Of course a blog post will be published the moment we know the outcome of the tests.
Manufacturing & delivery
While waiting for the main boards we are of course preparing for the big production run.
Currently we have stock of 3D printed cases, speakers, batteries, displays, keyboards, SMA cables and antennas for about 85 units. The pre-order is more popular than we predicted and thus we will need more of these parts. Orders have been placed and we expect the extra parts to arrive this month.
Once the main boards arrive we will assemble, test and ship orders in order, while this is going on we will publish the last order number of the day so that you can estimate when your order will be shipped.
Github project and issue tracker
To give more insight into what is going on in between these blog posts we have created a public Github project which tracks progress and shows what we are working on. You can find the project here.
Linked to the Github project we have also created a central location for the community to send in issues. If you have a suggestion or bug report you can create an issue on the issue tracker.
Order cancellation policy
It is of course possible to cancel your pre-order until it gets shipped. Let us know via email on contact@nicolaielectronics.nl if you wish to cancel your order. Please include your order number in the email.
