It has been a while since our last update here, partially thanks to how busy we have been shipping everyone their Tanmatsu. All pre-orders have been fulfilled and Tanmatsu is now in stock on our webshop.

What is next?

Software! While the hardware of Tanmatsu is very capable the current software situation doesn’t allow users to take full advantage of that unless they are provicient in embedded C development. We want to change that as quickly as we can and here is how:

Tanmatsu has passed EMC and RED tests

After a long wait the first results are finally here: Tanmatsu has passed the EMC and RED tests successfully! This means production will start soon. We expect that pre-orders will start shipping in three to four weeks.

What are EMC tests?

Electro-Magnetic Compatibility tests encompass a series of tests which verifies that the product can work in an environment with other electrical appliances.

August 2025 progress update

Hello everyone! Time moves quickly and it is August already. A lot of work is happening on the firmware, but what use is that if you don’t have the device in your hand. So this time let’s focus on the main question people have asked the past weeks: when will production start?

Compliance testing

The past months we have worked on preparing documents and firmware for the EMC and RED tests that need to be done for CE compliance. This work has now concluded and we have shipped samples to China for the lab to test with.

May 2025 progress update

A lot of progress has been made on all the project disciplines, this month we have progress update on the hard- and software as well as documentation and production.

Software

The past weeks lots of progress has been made on the launcher firmware. The launcher firmware will allow you to start installed apps from a special partition on the flash chip. You will also be able to browse a repository with apps created by other users, manage system settings and automatically download and install new versions of both the firmware and apps.

March 2025 progress update

A lot has happened since our last blog post in January and we have got a lot of good news to share!

The project is still progressing according to schedule and the first parts of Tanmatsu have arrived.

Displays

We have received a shipment of LH397K-IC01 displays for the first batch of Tanmatsu boards. We’re really happy with how smooth the communication with the manufacturer went and that delivery of the package went without a hitch.

Pre-ordering is now possible through our new webshop

Tanmatsu can now be pre-ordered for € 120 including VAT (€99,17 without VAT for customers outside of the EU). You can pre-order the Tanmatsu via our new webshop.

Project progress

The final prototypes are currently being manufactured over at JLCPCB. Meanwhile we are working on the launcher firmware which will allow users to install and run firmware binaries like apps. The launcher menu shows a list of installed apps (firmwares). When an app is selected the ESP32-P4 will reboot into the selected app.
